Join us each weekday at 6 AM and on Saturdays at 9 AM for corporate prayer sessions in the main auditorium as we usher in the presence of God and go before him and gear up spiritually for the upcoming fall season!

Corporate Prayer

We have all experienced the power of private, individual prayer.  We have experienced those times when we have called upon the Lord in prayer, He heard us and answered us, in a powerful way.  It is something we should do, and should do often.

But we need to understand that there is also a special dynamic that comes in to play when God’s people come together, united in faith, to seek the Lord in prayer, corporately.  Corporate prayer is the term used to describe praying together with other people.  It is an important part of the church. In Acts 2:42, we learn that the early church prayed together;  “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”  

When we pray with our brothers and sisters in Christ, the power of our faith increases greatly.  Moses told Israel that one could chase a thousand, yet two could put ten thousand to flight.  Jesus said it this way in the book of Matthew, “if two of you agree on earth…it shall be done…For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there I am in the midst of them.”  In other words, coming together, in agreement, releases a powerful manifest presence of God.

When people come together to pray there is a natural tendency for them to be drawn together.  When we pray together we leave behind our own desires and focus on God and others.  As God-centered prayers are shared they create a God-centered mindset among those in attendance.  In other words, it creates a “same page” mindset.  A greater unity is created in corporate prayer as we grow and unite around a common vision and purpose.

One of the best examples of corporate prayer in the New Testament is found in Acts 4:24.  Here, Peter and John returned to their own company and the whole company of believers “lifted up their voices together with one united mind to God…”  That doesn’t mean that they said exactly the same words, but they spoke with the same heart and heaven heard them as though they were all one voice.
